Wolves must swoop for dazzling playmaker Max Meyer after Schalke confirmed that the 22-year-old midfielder would be leaving as a free agent this summer.

The news, which was posted on the official Schalke Twitter page on Thursday, will have alerted top clubs in Europe to his availability.

Mayer is out of contract in June and will leave Schalke then – and Wolves must make sure they land the hugely talented midfielder.

Both Liverpool and Arsenal are reported to be interested in the attacking midfielder, who has played more of a deeper playmaker role this season.

However, Liverpool have been strongly linked with a move for Ruben Neves in the summer.

And if that happens, Wolves must bundle in front of their soon-to-be Premier League rivals and ensure they land Meyer at Molineux.

The player was seen as one of the hottest prospects in Europe but hasn't had the season that people were expecting in 18/19.

And that could be great news for Wolves who could convince him that the Molineux revolution is the springboard for him to realise his true potential.

He would be the perfect replacement for Neves, who would be a huge loss to Wolves, and signal a real statement of intent that Wolves aren't in the Premier League to make up the numbers, but to build a squad that can challenge.

It would be one of the best bits of business of the summer if Nuno can make it happen, and with the club's money and his vision, it's a move that we could see happening.
