Paul Lambert delivers damning verdict on Wolves capitulation v Wigan

Paul Lambert has blasted his Wolves side for their late defeat to Wigan on Tuesday night.
The Wolves boss described his anger with his squad after they fell to a late loss after an 88th winner from Jake Buxton consigned the Black Country club to their third consecutive defeat.
“I’m like everyone else, disappointed and angry with the way that we performed,” Lambert said to the Birmingham Mail.
“The first half was the catalyst. We were far too slow and defended too deep and waited for things to happen instead of going to make things happen. We never did enough, that’s for sure. It wasn’t good enough.
“We were too passive; we never dominated the ball and were not aggressive enough with or without the ball. Normally my teams come out of the traps and that is the disappointing thing.”
The 47-year-old will not be too disappointed with his job at Wolves since taking over as he has won seven out of his first 17 games with the club since taking charge in November.
What will concern him, however, is that despite two of those wins being in the FA Cup, Wolves are still languishing just about the relegation zone in 18th place and if their form doesn’t improve soon they may be looking at a second relegation to League One in four years.
Lambert, who had spells at Aston Villa and Norwich before moving to Molineux, may find his next game against Chelsea in the FA Cup a nice distraction from the league. With no weight of expectation, Wolves can enjoy hosting the Premier League leaders as they look to add the London club to the list of Stoke and Liverpool of teams they have dispatched of in this seasons cup.
