McAvennie: Arsenal could sell Smith-Rowe as source reveals 'huge' Aston Villa bid incoming
Frank McAvennie insists Aston Villa will be unable to tempt Arsenal into selling Emile Smith-Rowe as they ready a new bid.
The former Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, also questioned the club’s interest in the midfielder.
As revealed by Football Insider on Monday (June 21st), Villa are preparing a second bid of £30million for Smith-Rowe after having a £25million offer rejected.
A club source has since told this site Villa will go even higher with a “huge bid” if needed to get the young playmaker on board.
Smith-Rowe made 37 appearances for Arsenal in all competitions last season.
The Gunners are trying to agree new terms with the 23-year-old as his contract is due to expire in the summer of 2023.

However, McAvennie is confused as to why Villa want to sign Smith-Rowe in the first place.
When asked if a £30million bid would be enough to get Arsenal to part ways with Smith-Rowe, McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild, “I wouldn’t think so.”
“That’s a lot of money for a young boy who’s talented but not really tried and tested.
“I know he played a bit for them last season. Can you really say he will perform consistently in another team?
“They might want to cash in on him if they can’t sort his contract and stuff out.
“They would regret it if they sell him and he hits the ground running.
“Then they are thinking they could have got more than double that amount if they had held onto him for a year.
“Villa have a lot of players like him already, the move doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. It’s a strange one.”
Villa have already been busy in the transfer market with Ashley Young returning to the club last week.
Emi Buendia has also joined from Norwich in what is a club record deal.
