Frank McAvennie cannot understand the way Leigh Griffiths has been treated at Celtic amid reports he could be offered the chance to join Aberdeen this summer.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the Parkhead legend said the 30-year-old “needs to play” and questioned John Kennedy’s decision to bring him on against Rangers with just one minute remaining.
Griffiths has fallen out of favour at Celtic Park this year and has not started since the 2-1 loss against St Mirren at the back end of January.
As reported by 67 Hail Hail, the Sunday Post claim Aberdeen are set to offer the centre-forward an exit route this summer.
McAvennie is baffled by the way Griffiths’ season has played out.
“I do not know what is going on with Griffiths,” he told Football Insider.
“One thing I will never understand is bringing Griff on with one minute to go last week, I just not get it.
“I would love to know why John did that. Was he just wasting time?
“We wanted to beat Rangers, not just draw with them. We wanted to restore some pride.
“Griff needs games, he needs to play. What is going on?”

A move would see Griffiths link up with current teammate Scott Brown at Pittodrie next season.
The Hoops captain has agreed to put pen to paper on a two-year player/coach deal with Stephen Glass’ side at the end of the season.
