McAvennie claims Barkas has thrown away Celtic career with new keeper set to arrive
Frank McAvennie insists Celtic will sign a new goalkeeper this summer after another howler from Vasilis Barkas.
The Hoops icon, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the stopper just doesn’t have what it takes to play for the Parkhead club.
Barkas, 27, flapped at Evander’s free-kick during Celtic’s 1-1 draw with FC Midtjylland as the ball sailed over his head and into the net.
Barkas and Scott Bain shared goalkeeping duties last season with neither player impressing.
The Greece international joined Celtic last summer and has 21 outings to his name.
However, McAvennie claims Barkas will never make it at Celtic after blowing his fresh chance under Ange Postecoglou.

“Some people can cut it and some people can’t,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams
“For me, he’s not got it. He’s not got what it takes. I was hoping he would have a fresh start under Ange.
“But that massive mistake knocked him back. I feel for him because you don’t become a bad keeper overnight.
“I blame his treatment last year, whoever brought these boys in. Coming to Celtic is a massive thing.
“You might think you’re on for a big payday but if you don’t cut it, you’re out.
“The new manager has given him a chance but after the other night, I think someone else will be coming in.
“He’s not going to be our number one, that’s for sure.”
Celtic have every chance of progressing to the next round of Champions League qualifiers after their draw at Parkhead.
A clash against Galatasaray or PSV awaits the winner of next week’s clash in Denmark.
