McAvennie: Edouard is in for a 'shock' and thinks he's better than he is amid 'slaughtered' Celtic claim
Frank McAvennie has double down on his criticism of Odsonne Edouard by questioning his effort levels at Celtic this season.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the Parkhead legend said he was right to say the 23-year-old looked “disinterested” in pre-season.
Edouard is the Scottish Premiership’s top scorer in the 2020-21 campaign, with his 33 appearances across all competitions yielding 20 goals and four assists.
As quoted by the Glasgow Times, ex-Hoops boss Neil Lennon claimed the centre-forward lost his “mojo” in the first half of the campaign.
He revealed how the French striker felt like he missed out on a “potential move” away from Celtic Park last summer and suggested it had a detrimental effect on his form.
McAvennie believes Edouard and a number of other players have shown a lack of effort this season.

“I was slaughtered at the start of the season for saying that he did not look interested but I was proven right,” he told Football Insider.
“He is a wonderful striker but you have to perform nine games out of 10. You cannot just perform every other week and when you are not playing well you still have to put effort in and I do not think the boy has done that.
“I am not blaming him for this season though because the whole team has been like that.
“Some of the players think they are better than what they are and they are going to get a shock.”
