McAvennie has 'no hope' of Celtic beating Midtjylland after fresh embarrassment
Frank McAvennie has slammed Celtic after they were handed a 6-2 pre-season defeat by West Ham.
The Hoops icon, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, watched the poor performance first hand and did not hold back in his criticism.
Michail Antonio scored twice while Mark Noble, Said Benrahma, Jarrod Bowen and Armstrong Okoflex added to the Hoops’ misery.
Callum McGregor and Ryan Christie scored for Celtic as Ange Postecoglou’s side geared up for Wednesday’s crunch clash against FC Midtjylland.
The Hoops go into that game needing to score after drawing last week’s Parkhead tie 1-1.
McAvennie claims Celtic couldn’t have undergone worse preparation for their Champions League clash.

“I was at the game, and it was men against boys,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“They need an entirely new back four. I’m not one to kick them when they are down but they simply aren’t good enough.
“Antonio isn’t even really a striker, as good as he is. He’s a midfielder player who’s playing as a striker.
“He ran them ragged, I know some of them are young lads but they didn’t look ready for the first team.
“I’m struggling for words to be honest, it was an embarrassment.
“I know it’s pre-season but it was in between two big games. I didn’t expect that and West Ham were maybe at 50%.
“It was the worst possible thing before Wednesday’s game. I have little to no hope now.”
Either Galatasaray or PSV Eindhoven await Celtic in the next qualifying round should the club prevail on Wednesday.
The Hoops are back in action almost immediately after the game with their Scottish Premiership campaign getting underway this weekend.
