McAvennie issues warning to Celtic and Postecoglou after UEFA announcement

Frank McAvennie has warned Celtic to not underestimate FC Midtjylland in next month’s Champions League qualifiers.

The Hoops icon, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the Danish side are a “damned good team”.

Last week, UEFA announced Celtic have drawn against FC Midtjylland in July’s Champions League qualifiers.

The first leg of the clash will take place in less than a month and the Hoops will play their final pre-season friendly between both ties.

Postecoglou has now arrived at Lennoxtown and can start making key decisions on the future of his squad.

McAvennie claims this quick start to life at Celtic is something Postecoglou needs to get used to.

“He’s got a lot to sort out,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“They (FC Midtjylland) are no mugs, they are a good team. Actually, they are a damned good team.

“That’s not an easy win by any stretch of the imagination. He’s got to get his act together and hit the ground running.

“A lot needs to happen between now and then. Less than a month away.

“They are still playing pre-season friendlies when those genes are going on and then it’s the start of the season.

“Ange won’t get time at Celtic and this is a perfect welcome for him in that regard.”

Celtic begin their Scottish Premiership campaign with a trip to Tynecastle.

By that time, POstecoglou will have already played two competitive games that will have major repercussions on Celtic’s season.
