McAvennie tells Goldson to 'get real' and he's 'not as good as he thinks he is' as Rangers 'demands' revealed

Celtic and West Ham legend Frank McAvennie joined the Football Insider stable in June 2020 and has not disappointed with his own brand of unique punditry. He loves talking football almost as much as he loved scoring goals, and still has close links in the dressing room at Parkhead.

Connor Goldson can't sign for a bigger club than Rangers as his future remains in doubt.

That's according to former Celtic hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Goldson's situation.

The centre-back has less than one year remaining on his current terms at Ibrox.

As a result, Goldson will be free to speak to foreign clubs regarding a pre-contract agreement in the new year.

He is a vital cog in the Rangers machine and didn't miss a minute of competitive football last season.

McAvennie claims Goldson isn't as good as he thinks he is and told him to get real over his future.

"He must think he deserves a better deal than everyone else," McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

"He has played well in a well-drilled defence, they work well together.

"I don't think any of them are standout players, they just work so hard together, that's why they were so good.

"He's not as good as he thinks he is. I think he's a cog rather than the star man. What is he demanding?

"Gerrard will be telling him that. If he leaves, he won't find a bigger club, you know, get real.

"They need to sort that out either way, quickly."

Goldson has made 13 appearances in all competitions for Rangers this season.

He also has one Premiership goal to his name after notching against Ross County.
