Jackie McNamara has claimed Steven Gerrard will build his new-looked Rangers side next season around Glen Kamara, James Tavernier and Scott Arfield.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the Scotland and Celtic legend revealed how impressed he has been with the Ibrox trio in the final months of the 2018-19 campaign.
McNamara expects another major overhaul of the Rangers team this summer and is convinced star man Alfredo Morelos is heading out of the club in a £10million transfer.
But he believes there is a core of proven performers around who Gerrard will rely upon next season, including January arrival Kamara.
“I’ve been impressed by Kamara, he looks decent,” McNamara told Football Insider. “The other key players would be Tavernier with his goals, penalties, free-kicks and ability going forward and Arfield. He has had a pretty good first season.
“I think there will be lots of signings, lots coming in and plenty going out. There are quite a few areas that need strengthening – centre-back, left-back, a striker if Morelos leaves, a playmaker and on the wings – and they’ll want to get a goalie to challenge [Allan] McGregor.”
Gerrard’s first season ended trophyless as the team finished second in the Scottish Premiership and had a strong Europa League run but made little impression in the domestic cups.
In other Rangers news, it can be REVEALED that the club have been hit by a major blow as prime attacking target agrees to join English club.
