Jackie McNamara has claimed three more senior Celtic midfielders may follow Scott Allan through the exit door this summer as the club’s mass overhaul gets underway.
Speaking to Football Insider, the ex-Hoops skipper suggested there could be significant changes in the playing squad irrespective of who is named the next manager.
McNamara named Olivier Ntcham, Tom Rogic and Nir Bitton as three midfielders who may leave Parkhead in addition to Allan, who has joined Hibernian permanently after agreeing a pre-contract in January.
Celtic’s first choice midfield pairing is Scott Brown and Callum McGregor, both of whom are set to start in Saturday’s Scottish Cup final against Hearts at Hampden.
“I think we’re quite strong in there (the midfield) but there’s been reports they’ve got a few players in there that they might have to move on if they’re not going to feature,” McNamara told Football Insider.
“You’ve got Bitton in there, you’ve got Ntcham who’s been in and out this season, so obviously they need to make a decision on them. Bitton’s come back from injury, Ntcham’s sort of been in and out and you’ve got Rogic as well who’s been injured.
“Scott Allan’s away to Hibs on a free contract, so I imagine there will be players who come in to strengthen around that area.”
Bitton has started just five Celtic starts this season among nine appearances, Ntcham has had 30 starts among 36 appearances and Rogic has had 25 starts among 33 games in all competitions.
In other Celtic news, it can be REVEALED that the club have made an approach to sign a Premier League centre-forward approaching his peak out of contract next year.
