Celtic have made an approach to sign Bournemouth centre-forward Lys Mousset, Football Insider understands.

The 23-year-old is out of contract at the Vitality Stadium next year and this has alerted the Scottish giants to his possibility availability amid intense competition for striker positions in Eddie Howe’s side.

A Celtic source has told Football Insider the club have sounded out third parties about a deal for the former France Under-21 international this summer.

The Glasgow giants are in the market for a new striker this window to provide competition for Odsonne Edouard and Leigh Griffiths, who has barely played this season due to off-field troubles.

Mousset has been a regular in Bournemouth’s squad and has accumulated 28 appearances this season, but most of those were as a substitute and four of his five starts came in the cup competitions.

Callum Wilson and Josh King are the first choice forward in Eddie Howe’s side and the club spent £19million to sign Dominic Solanke from Liverpool in January.

Mousset may be tempted by the chance to be the number one front man at Celtic and reignite his career in the same way as countryman Moussa Dembele did when moving north of the border.

He has scored five times in 71 Bournemouth appearances, nearly all of which have been as a sub, since signing from Le Havre in the summer of 2016.

In other Celtic news, it can be REVEALED that the club have made an approach to sign a left-sided flyer and he wants to join.
