Rangers wide man Josh McPake will undergo a Morecambe medical today, Football Insider has learned.

The attacker, 19, is set to sign a new three-year Ibrox contract before completing a loan move to the League One club in England.

Ibrox sources have told Football Insider that the terms of a season-long loan for McPake are agreed as well as an extension to his contract.

The new agreement will run until 2024 and replace his existing deal, which expires next summer.

The plan is for McPake to start a medical at the Lancashire-based club today before being unveiled as 2021-22 signing tomorrow.

It is regarded as a coup for Morecambe to land the wide attacker given the competition for his services.

English Championship duo QPR and Bristol City were watching McPake earlier this year, while more recently he has been linked with Motherwell, Livingston, Doncaster Rovers, Oldham Athletic and Tranmere Rovers.

The Rangers extension demonstrates how highly he is also thought of at his parent club.

McPake, who has made just one senior appearance for the Glasgow giants, is a versatile attacker who operates anywhere across the front line but mainly on the right flank.

He made a big impression on loan at English League Two club Harrogate in the second half of 2020-21.

McPake's 22 starts yielded an impressive four goals after he spent the first half of last season at Scottish Championship side Greenock Morton.
