Crewe Alexandra defender Harry Pickering is set to undergo a medical at Blackburn Rovers today, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.
Tony Mowbray’s side have beaten second-tier rivals Sheffield Wednesday to the 22-year-old’s signature ahead of tomorrow’s transfer deadline.
A recruitment source told Football Insider the Championship club have reached an agreement with Crewe and are now finalising terms with the left-back.
Left-back has been something of a problem position for Blackburn over the past few seasons.
Amari Bell, Derrick Williams and loan signing Barry Douglas have all had chances to impress on the left of the defence but failed to deliver the level of performances that Mowbray wants from his promotion-chasing side.
Speaking after Blackburn’s 1-0 win over Luton Town on Saturday, Mowbray confirmed that a deal for a left-back was being worked on.
Pickering has spent the entirety of his career so far with Crewe, turning out 148 times for the League One side.
He has scored 10 goals and registered 14 assists in that time having played an integral role in the side that won promotion to the third-tier last season.
Pickering returned to Crewe’s starting XI for the Railwaymen’s 1-1 draw with Ipswich on Saturday after missing the previous two games with a back injury.
The Chester-born full-back has won plaudits for his performances in League One this season.
He is set to become the second big name exit from Cheshire-based outfit after Perry Ng moved to Cardiff City earlier in the window.
