Matthew Cox is undergoing a Brentford medical today after they beat Aston Villa to his signature, Football Insider understands.

A Brentford source has told Football Insider the two clubs have now reached an agreement and he will put pen to paper after completing a medical.

He penned professional terms with Wimbledon last summer.

However, Cox is yet to make his senior debut but was named on the bench for 17 League One games last season.

Sam Walker and Nikols Tzanev shared the gloves ahead of the teenager as the Dons narrowly escaped relegation from League One.

Cox also played twice for England Under-17s last season.

Brentford are in the market for goalkeeping reinforcements after releasing Luke Daniels.

Daniel Raya is the undisputed first-choice as he played 42 games last season as Brentford secured promotion to the Premier League.

Cox will likely link up with their unique 'B' team ahead of the new campaign.

The Bees academy operate outside of the Under-23 system but have been successful in producing first-team players.

B team graduate Emiliano Marcondes scored the second goal in their 2-0 win over Swansea City in the play-off final last season.

Ben Winterbottom and Nathan Shepperd, both 20, are the club's current B team goalkeepers.
