Liverpool have accepted a bid from Club Brugge for Simon Mignolet even though he’s blown Jurgen Klopp away with his attitude and commitment in training, Football Insider understands.
The goalkeeper, 31, has flown to Brussels in his native Belgium to put the finishing touches to a £6.4million transfer after terms were agreed yesterday.
He is set to undergo a medical with Brugge today and then put pen to paper on a deal that will end his six-year spell at Anfield.
This comes after Football Insider reported in April that Liverpool would listen to offers for Mignolet this summer despite Klopp being so impressed with his professionalism.
Mignolet has been far from a disruptive or even frustrated figure behind the scenes at the club’s Melwood training headquarters even though he made just two appearances last season following the arrival of Alisson, who had an outstanding debut campaign.
A Liverpool source told Football Insider that Klopp has been hugely impressed at the work-rate, professionalism and performances of the Belgian on a daily basis, including during negotiations over his sale.
Mignolet put his personal situation to the side to galvanise and encourage Alisson last season as Liverpool won the Champions League and secured their highest-ever Premier League points tally.
The 22-times Belgium international is set to head out of Anfield after making 204 appearances for the club.
