Brentford defender Ezri Konsa is undergoing a medical at Aston Villa as he finalises a £10million-plus transfer, Football Insider understands.
Football Insider revealed earlier today that the newly-promoted Premier League club were in advanced talks to sign centre-back Konsa in the coming days.
A Villa source has told Football Insider that Villa have agreed a fee with Brentford for the England Under-21 international, who has been granted permission to have a medical and discuss personal terms.
The Midlands giants are now poised to make Konsa their seventh signing of the summer window in time for him to jet out to America with the squad for their pre-season tour later this week.
The 21-year-old’s imminent arrival will take Villa’s summer spending beyond the £60million point after the club previously acquired Anwar El Ghazi, Matt Targett, Kortney Hause, Jota and the striker Wesley Moraes.
It will reunite manager Dean Smith with a player he signed from Charlton Athletic when he was at Brentford last summer for a fee of around £2.5million.
Konsa made a big impression in his debut season at Griffin Park, starting 42 league matches among 47 appearances in all competitions.
He was once billed as ‘the best young centre-back in the country’ by Karl Robinson, his manager when he played for Charlton.
Brentford have prepared for the exit of one of their prize assets by recruiting Pontus Jansson for £5.5million from Leeds United on Monday and Ethan Pinnock from Barnsley.
In other Aston Villa news, Football Insider can reveal that the club have been forced to pay an extra £9.5million for Tyrone Mings due to clause blunder.
