Blackpool have agreed a deal to sign former Sunderland midfielder Ethan Robson, Football Insider understands.
The 23-year-old left the Stadium of Light last month upon the expiration of his contract in the north east, and is now a free agent.
A Blackpool source has told Football Insider that the player is poised to link up with the Tangerines in the coming days, with a move on the brink of completion.
Robson has agreed personal terms with the Seasiders, and his medical is being completed ahead of a free transfer.
Blackpool started the transfer window at an impressive pace, bringing in Keshi Anderson, Marvin Ekpiteta, CJ Hamilton, Oliver Sarkic and Jerry Yates in the first 24 days of the market being open.
Since then, things have slowed down a little for Neil Critchley’s men, but a deal for Robson could kickstart their recruitment drive back into life.
The central midfielder is also capable of playing out wide on the right, and spent the first half of last season on loan with League Two outfit Grimsby Town.
Robson made 21 appearances for the Mariners, scoring three goals, before returning to Wearside in January.
He has struggled to make an impact with his boyhood club, however, and has been limited to just 14 first team outings since making his senior debut in 2017.
Robson did not record a single first team appearance under Phil Parkinson this term, with the Black Cats set for another season in League One after failing to secure a play-off place before the season was curtailed by the Coronavirus pandemic.
