Medical underway: MK Dons set to sign Will Grigg on loan from Sunderland - Sources

Will Grigg is having a medical at MK Dons ahead of loan move from Sunderland, Football Insider understands.

A recruitment source has now told Football Insider that the striker is undergoing a medical as he puts the finishing touches on a move to Stadium MK.

Grigg has fallen out of favour at the Stadium of Light and has not started since the 1-1 draw with Wimbledon in mid-December.

Sunderland boss Lee Johnson has given the green light for the Northern Ireland international to leave the club following the arrival of Ross Stewart from Ross County.

The £3million signing from Wigan Athletic in January 2019 has struggled since arriving on Wearside and has not scored this season.

He has made just 12 appearances for the Black Cats this term, with Charlie Wyke the first choice striker at the Stadium of Light.

Grigg is among the top earners at Sunderland and club chiefs are keen to get him off the wage bill.

He has 18 months remaining on his contract.

The striker still boasts an impressive record in League One, his 300 appearances in the division, from spells at Walsall, Brentford, MK Dons and Wigan, have returned 101 goals.

He is now set to return to Stadium MK having previously joined the club on loan from Brentford for the 2014/15 campaign.
