Merson: 'Very shaky' Tottenham 23-year-old is a liability for clash v Burnley
Paul Merson has predicted Tottenham’s clash with Burnley and revealed that he thinks Eric Dier is “an issue” when he plays in defence.
In his predictions for Sky Sports, the pundit shared that Dier is better in midfield and revealed his reason for thinking that.
“Eric Dier is an issue for me,” said Merson.
“He has looked very shaky in the back four, he is better in midfield, sometimes he is too casual.”
Dier has made 25 appearances across all competitions for Tottenham this season, and has grabbed one assist.
The midfielder has missed only 81 minutes of Premier League action season as he played just nine minutes in the 4-1 win against Liverpool in October.

Despite criticising Dier, Merson still predicted a 3-1 win for Spurs as he revealed that he believes the wheels are coming off at Burnley.
The pundit shared that he thought Brighton outplayed Burnley in their last game, and Sean Dyche’s men “got away it”.
Ahead of this game, Burnley sit one place higher than Spurs with a point more.
Victory for Tottenham would not only move them above Burnley, but could take them above bitter rivals Arsenal as well, if the Gunners lose on Friday.
However, Spurs failed to win their first meeting with Burnley this season, settling for a 1-1 at Wembley in August.
Chris Wood grabbed a late goal to cancel out Dele Alli’s opener.
