Merson: This Tottenham star would help PL rivals push for titles

By Harvey Byrne

Outspoken Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson believes Harry Kane is the player Manchester United should be looking at, stating they need to be going for Premier League titles.

The Tottenham star has risen to stardom after making his breakthrough in the 2014-15 campaign and just three years later he is considered one of the best strikers in the world.

He is also tied down to Spurs in a long-term deal taking him up to 2022 with the north London side.

However, former Arsenal man Merson has told that he believed Kane was the man Manchester United would target with a large bid of around £95million.

“I honestly thought Man Utd would have gone for Harry Kane. I thought they would have gone £90m or £100m for him,” told Merson, as quoted by the Sky Sports website.

“I don’t think Man Utd can afford to have a Pogba situation next season where they pay big money for someone and it’s going to take them a season to get into it.

“It’s another gamble if they do this and they get a Pogba situation where it takes time to settle. They are going to be behind the eight-ball again, fighting for fourth place.”This is Man Utd, one of the biggest clubs in the world. They need to be going for Premier League titles.”Kane has topped the Premier League goal scoring charts for two consecutive seasons with Tottenham now, bagging a very fine 54 goals in 68 league appearances across the two campaigns.

It is clear why Spurs have tied him up to a new deal and the club’s hierarchy will do their utmost to keep a player of his talents.

The north London club are also moving into a new 61,000-seater stadium in the near future, which will help them compete with the likes of Manchester United both on and off the field so that they avoid the same scenarios as they have seen with Michael Carrick and Dimitar Berbatov in the past.
