Michail Antonio sends Twitter message to West Ham fans after devastating setback

By Matt Farr

West Ham winger Michail Antonio has promised fans he will come back fitter and strong next season after seeing his season cut short with injury.

Antonio took to his personal Twitter account on Thursday to thank the West Ham fans for their support following the devastating setback, and issued his promise ahead of next season.

He said: I’ll come back fitter, stronger and better next year. Thanks for all the lovely messages.”

The 27-year-old has struggled with a hamstring injury in recent weeks, which saw him miss the international break last month, as well as the subsequent clash with Hull in the Premier League.

But West Ham manager Slaven Bilic confirmed on Wednesday that Antonio had suffered a ‘significant injury’  during the recent win over Swansea and that he would miss the rest of the season.

The news came as a crushing blow to the club, as the winger has been the star performer for the London outfit this season, contributing nine goals and five assists from 37 appearances in all competitions.

However, Antonio’s individual efforts have been far overshadowed this term by a disappointing overall team display.

The Hammers find themselves flirting with the relegation zone ahead of the final six matches of the Premier League season.

They are just eight points clear of the bottom three with a crucial clash against bottom-of-the-table Sunderland on Saturday.

In other West Ham news, contract talks with Antonio have reportedly stalled as the he wants £70,000-per-week.
