TalkSport pundit Mick Quinn has destroyed Dejan Lovren for his display in Liverpool's 2-1 win over Hoffenheim on Tuesday night.

Although Jurgen Klopp's men came away from Germany in a commanding position ahead of next week's Champions League play-off second leg, Lovren, 28, was at the centre of what was yet again another frail defensive showing from the Reds.

The Croatian international was lucky to have not seen Hoffenheim take the lead in the first half when he tripped Serge Gnabry in the box to give away a penalty.

Luckily for Liverpool, Andrej Kramaric's spot kick was woeful and was parried away from Simon Mignolet, but former Newcastle striker Quinn thinks that things only got worse for Lovren as the game went on and has torn into him as a result.

"You have Lovren, who is an absolute liability," said a passionate Quinn on TalkSport, as shown in a video on Alan Brazil's Sports Breakfast's official Twitter account on Wednesday.

"He gave one penalty away, he could have two away last night.

"He played them onside for the Hoffenheim goal - liability."

Lovren was signed by Liverpool from Southampton in 2014 but in three years he has been unable to replicate the form he showed on the south coast.

The senior Liverpool player is widely seen as a major weak link in Klopp's defence, which was also exposed on Saturday when they drew 3-3 with Watford in the first Premier League fixture of the season.
