Confirmed: Right-back exits Aston Villa as Bruce overhaul picks up pace
By Matt Bullin
Aston Villa defender Joe Linley has announced he is leaving the club via his personal Twitter account.
The 19-year-old right-back was one of six youngsters handed new deals at the club last summer but is now on his way out of Villa Park.
Linley signed a scholarship deal at West Ham in 2014, only to move to make the move to Villa several months later.
Despite spending three years at the club he never featured for the senior side, though he was a regular in the Under-23s this season, making 10 Premier League 2 appearances.
The 19-year-old is predominantly a right-back, but he is versatile and also filled in at left-back and right-midfield for the Under-23s.

Linley becomes the latest victim of Steve Bruce’s mass exodus at Villa which has also seen Jerell Sellars leave the club after five years earlier this week and Rory Hale leave the week before.
Bruce had earlier revealed to the Birmingham Mail that he would look to offload “12 or 13” players this summer as he aims to overhaul his squad.
John Abdoul has also left the club, and according to the Birmingham Mail report more exits are imminent.
In other Aston Villa news, David Prutton has delivered his verdict on the club’s season.
