'Miles off Tottenham side...' - Exclusive: Ex-striker rips into £10m forgotten man
Noel Whelan claimed Jack Clarke is “miles off the Tottenham side” and expects the teenager to be sent out on loan again next season.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, the former Leeds United striker admitted the 19-year-old has “disappointed” since leaving Elland Road last summer.
Clarke signed for Spurs in a near £10million deal last July but was immediately loaned back to Marcelo Bielsa’s side.
However, the winger only played 19 minutes of first-team football on his return and was subsequently loaned out to Queens Park Rangers for the second half of this season.
The youngster has made five appearances since moving to Loftus Road but is still yet to open his account for the club.
When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of the teenager’s development this season, Whelan said: “His progression has been very slow. We saw the peak of that at Leeds United.

“Things happened very quickly for him. He went to a big club for a big amount of money and, in Tottenham’s eyes, he is one for the future.
“He has not done it at QPR, they were disappointed and wanted more. He has a lot of thinking to do.
“Jack is miles off the Tottenham side. He will go out on loan next year but to be successful, and be the player we thought he was going to be, he needs to have a really long look at himself.
“He needs to get the bit between his teeth and prove a point to people. At the moment, he is dwindling away. People have forgotten about him.
“There is a player there but at the moment he is a bench player.”
Clarke, who can play on the right or left flank, signed a four-year deal with Spurs.
First-team opportunities in north London look increasingly unlikely with the potential arrival of Willian this summer.
