Mills: Everton fans will love 'game-changing' Gordon reveal

Anthony Gordon has the right attitude if he wants to be a “matchwinner” at Everton, according to Danny Mills.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Premier League and England defender insisted Everton fans should be excited at Gordon’s vow to improve.

As quoted by the Daily Mail (November 9), the 20-year-old claimed he sees himself as “a game-changer and a matchwinner for Everton”.

He admitted he had a long way to go before he fulfils his ambition at Goodison Park.

Gordon scored twice on his England Under-21 debut this week after a fine start to the season at Everton.

Nine of the academy graduate’s 28 senior appearances for the club have come this season, including three Premier League starts.

“He’s saying all the right things,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“‘I want to be this, I want to be that but I’m not quite there yet, I’m not quite ready. I hope to get there, that’s where I want to be’.

“He’s saying all the right things which I think is very, very important. That’s what fans want to hear.

“He’s keeping his feet on the ground and he’s clearly talented with a decent amount of potential.

“That’s all he can keep doing, just keep working hard.”

Gordon’s strong season so far has come as a bit of a surprise after an unsuccessful loan spell at Preston North End earlier this year.

He moved to Deepdale on a temporary deal at the end of the winter transfer window but managed just 11 appearances, including five starts, for the Championship outfit.
