Mills: Leeds handed 'vitally important' boost amid Bielsa reveal

Victory over Watford was “vitally important” for Leeds United, according to Danny Mills.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Whites and England defender suggested Leeds being out of the relegation places before the international break is a major psychological boost.

Saturday’s 1-0 win over the Hornets was the Yorkshire giants’ first Premier League win over the season.

It means Marcelo Bielsa’s side are now 16th in the table, three points above the bottom three.

As quoted by Leeds Live, Bielsa admitted after the game he felt “relieved” with the result.

“The performances [this season] have been quite good by Leeds,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“They hadn’t quite had the rub of the green or been clinical enough in those performances.

“It’s not like they were playing badly. There’s always the argument is it better to play badly and pick up points or play well and not pick up points? It’s probably better to pick up points is the answer.

“If the performances kept going then the result should come.

“It was a vital win. You want to end the little period going into the international break on a high. That’s vitally important.

“You don’t want to go into the break in the bottom three. You would think Watford would be one of the teams down there with you come the end of the season.

“If Watford had won that they would have had three wins and they only need another six to stay up, realistically. They would have been a third of the way there.”
