Danny Mills has urged Leeds United to make a move for Borna Barisic before his value rockets during the European Championship.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Whites and England defender insisted the club have a "fantastic opportunity" to sort out their left-back issue with Barisic.

This site then learned on the morning of the game

.

However, he was not selected and was not included in the 23-man squad as Croatia boss Zlatko Dalić explained he had a niggling injury.

"The left-back position needs to be sorted, we know that,"

Mills told

Football Insider

correspondent Connor Whitley.

"They need to bring in a specialist in that area.

"Croatia are a good side and he's obviously had a good season at Rangers. To be in the Croatia squad, you're obviously of high quality.

"It could be a fantastic opportunity but it's better to get it done sooner rather than later. Let's say he goes on to have a really good tournament, they'll be one or two others queuing up to try and get his signature."

Barisic had started both of Croatia's pre-tournament friendlies and was handed the number three shirt for the competition.

He finished Rangers' title-winning season with 14 assists and five goals in 50 appearances across all competitions.
