Mills: Newcastle may appoint Zidane as new manager after source reveal
Danny Mills has suggested Zinedine Zidane could become the new Newcastle United manager.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Leeds United and England defender delivered his verdict after the Saudi-backed takeover was confirmed by the club.
A Newcastle source told Football Insider (October 7) one of the new regime’s top priorities is to sound out Rafael Benitez about a sensational return as they target a top-tier appointment.
He remains an extremely popular figure with Newcastle supporters but took over at Everton over the summer.
“I would be very, very surprised if Steve Bruce is still in a job come January,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“That’s not because he’s done a bad job it’s just because a new manager is going to come in with some sparkle.

“An Antonio Conte or someone like that who’s available, who could bring in stellar names.
“Newcastle will be looking at anybody though. Anyone that’s in a job and maybe thinking about moving on.
“Zidane is obviously out of work and available.
“There will be other clubs thinking ‘Hang on a minute, what about our manager?’
“It will be a big, big project for somebody. No doubt, somebody’s going to be offered a lot of money to take the job and have a lot of money to spend.
“There’s a lot to do in terms of recruitment.”
Zidane has been out of work since leaving Real Madrid in May of this year after winning 11 trophies, including three consecutive Champions Leagues, in his two spells in charge.
The Frenchman has only ever managed the club he played 227 times for in his illustrious playing career.
