EXCLUSIVE

Danny Mills has claimed he would be “stunned” if Tottenham signed Newcastle United playmaker Ayoze Perez this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-England defender is sceptical about reports that the Champions League finalists have tabled a £24.7million bid for the Spaniard.

CalcioNapoli24 in Italy claim Tottenham are keen to beat Napoli to the signing of the 25-year-old following his strong finish to the Premier League season.

Football Insider revealed at the end of last month that Newcastle will demand £35million for Perez if he quits the club this summer five years after signing from Tenerife for £1.5million.

“I’d been stunned if Tottenham signed him,” Mills told Football Insider. “He has been at Newcastle for five years and had half a good season. He has hardly ripped up any trees.

“if you can get a big fee, sell him. I would go for it if I was Newcastle. He is certainly replaceable, especially if they can get decent money to invest back into the team.”

Perez, 25, has scored 48 goals in 195 appearances for Newcastle and has played his best football for the club since the January arrival of club-record signing Miguel Almiron.

He ended the campaign with a glut of goals, including 10 in the Premier League in he second half of the season, six of which came from the final five matches.

In other Spurs news, it can be REVEALED that the club want to wrap up their first summer signing in the coming days after MAJOR development.
