Mills shares verdict on Tottenham signing Mahrez after key reveal
Tottenham may love to sign Riyad Mahrez and Aymeric Laporte in a part-exchange deal with Man City for Harry Kane but will have no chance of finalising a deal without a manager.
That s the view of ex-England and City defender Danny Mills, speaking exclusively to Football Insider as the Premier League champions consider their next steps.
The Athletic reported on 22 June they have mentioned both Laporte and Mahrez among others as potential makeweights in a deal for Kane.
Man City have already had a £100million bid for the England captain rejected.
Asked whether Spurs would be interested in either of Laporte or Marhrez, Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “Yes, they would. Laporte certainly. Mahrez without a shadow of a doubt.
“But why would these players go there? That’s the issue. There’s no manager at the minute.

“Harry Kane’s leaving so you’re going to a club with no manager, no structure. What players are coming in? No wonder Daniel Levy just wants cash.
“Whether these players want to leave Man City and the chance to win all the silverware and the rest of it. Even if it’s financially a better deal to go to Tottenham, they might say ‘I still don’t want to go there because we don’t know who the manager is and if he likes me or whether I like the style of play.’
“You have to sort out the manager before thinking about recruitment and bringing players in. No player or very few players are going to want to go there if there’s no manager.”
Mahrez has 66 goals and 50 assists in 226 Premier League games across his time with City and Leicester City.
Laporte signed for City in the summer of 2019 but is currently third-choice behind Ruben Dias and John Stones.
