Mills suggests Tottenham signing Ronaldo as 'astonishing' bid readied

Danny Mills has tipped Harry Kane to stay at Tottenham as Manchester City ready a mega bid.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Leeds United and England defender suggested only Cristiano Ronaldo could replace the England captain in north London.

It is understood an offer could reach £150million including add-ons - just £10million short of Spurs' new valuation.

Meanwhile, Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport, via Daily Mirror, reported today (17 August) Ronaldo wants to leave Juventus this summer.

Asked whether Tottenham would accept a £150million offer for Kane, Mills told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild: “Only Daniel Levy knows that answer.

“The problem is now with two weeks or so left of the transfer window, who do you bring in to replace Harry Kane? The season has started. Who’s available? Who’s out there?

“What about Ronaldo? Juventus don’t want him. That’s a one year stop gap realistically. Ronaldo can’t go on forever.

“Who else is there who can come in and score 20 goals a season? There aren’t many strikers out there.

“At the moment, it’s a bit of a Fernando Torres-Andy Carroll situation. One goes for £50million so the next one goes for an extra £20million because the price is inflated.

“If Tottenham have got £150million in the bank, if they’re looking at a player for £50million that price is now £80million, £90million. They know they have the money and they will be desperate to get a player in.

“I’m not sure this is a transfer that will happen. It’s still in the balance either way and Harry Kane may have to stay at Spurs.”
