Mills: Raphinha stopped Leeds signing Gallagher
Danny Mills has suggested Conor Gallagher snubbed a move to Leeds United because they could not match Crystal Palace’s “guarantees” over playing time.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Whites and England defender insisted staying in London and the chance to work under Patrick Vieria will have also played a big part in Gallagher’s decision.
Football Insider learned on 30 July Palace had fended off interest from Leeds to complete the loan signing of the midfielder.
The south London club confirmed Gallagher’s arrival later that evening.
The 22-year-old spent last season on loan in the Premier League with West Brom.
Asked why Gallagher would snub Leeds, Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “Maybe staying in London is a bit of a pull and being closer to family and friends.

“He’s been out on loan and away from that and maybe he wants some home comforts. Patrick Vieria is a good pull.
“I just wonder, has he got a chance of playing more regularly at Palace than he would have at Leeds United.
“He’s going to play in that Rahpinha, Rodrigo role. Jack Harrison’s in there, Kalvin Phillips’ is in there. That midfield area for Leeds is not done and dusted but harder to break into than under a new manager and a new direction at Palace.
“He might have had more assurances at Palace. Bielsa might not promise that.”
Gallagher played 30 games in the top-flight for West Brom last season as they suffered relegation.
He has also enjoyed loan spells with Charlton Athletic and Swansea City.
