Dele Alli needs to leave Tottenham and seek a “fresh challenge” to reignite his career, according to Danny Mills.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Leeds United and England defender suggested a potential sale could allow Spurs to bring in two new players.
Football Insider revealed on May 24 that the club will listen to offers for the 25-year-old in the upcoming window.
It is said he is difficult to manage behind the scenes and therefore Tottenham are keen to offload him permanently.
Paris Saint-Germain enquired about a loan deal in the winter window but were unwilling to pay the £3million loan fee that Daniel Levy was demanding.
He started the last five Premier League games of the season, but before that, he was limited to just two league starts under Jose Mourinho.
Asked whether now was the right time to sell Dele, Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “Yes.
“If it’s not working, you can’t have mavericks in a team game. If somebody’s upsetting the team ethic you have to move them on.
“Maybe he needs a fresh challenge, we’ve said it many times. You can sell him on and bring good money in.
“You could possibly bring in a couple of players in off the back of selling Dele Alli.”
Dele has scored 65 goals and provided 60 assists in 251 games for Spurs across all competitions in his six full seasons at the club.
The 37-time England international’s contract expires in 2024 after he signed a new six-year deal in October 2018.
