Noel Whelan has tipped Carlo Ancelotti to axe Yerry Mina if Everton sign Kalidou Koulibaly this summer.

The former Leeds United striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the Napoli star would be a nailed-on starter every week at Goodison Park.

As revealed by Football Insider, Carlo Ancelotti has set his sights on a reunion with the 29-year-old in the hunt for a “world-class” centre-back.

Koulibaly was a near ever-present during the Italian’s 18-month spell at Napoli and has established himself as one of the best centre-back’s in Europe.

Ancelotti currently has Mina, Michael Keane, Mason Holgate and Ben Godfrey as his centre-half options.

The Colombia international, 26, has been a regular among the starting XI this season.

However, Whelan suggested he could be the one facing the chop if Koulibaly joins.

Whelan told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge: “You’ve got Mina, Keane, Holgate. Godfrey can play different positions, he can play full-back.

“I think if they’re going to play three at the back then yes, it’s beneficial to have more centre-halves at your disposal.

“You can never turn down a good player that might be available and someone that’s going to improve what you’ve already got. He definitely would do.

“Yerry Mina is in and out. Maybe you need that little bit more stability. He would be one that would be very much on the teamsheet week in, week out.”

Mina, who joined Everton from Barcelona in 2018, has a total of 72 appearances under his belt for the Toffees.

He made his return from a calf injury in the FA Cup defeat to Manchester City before the international break.
