Garry Monk delivers Twitter verdict on Leeds FA Cup victory v Cambridge

By Emma Sanders

Garry Monk claims his side showed “real maturity” during their 2-1 victory against Cambridge on Monday evening.

Leeds battled through a tough FA Cup third round test against the League Two side and the manager stated he was “happy” to progress through to the fourth round after he delivered a message on Twitter following the victory.

It wasn’t the best Leeds performance and his side went down in the first half when Cambridge’ Uche Ikpeazu netted following some poor play from the Championship outfit.

The Whites looked out of sorts and risked being dumped out of the FA Cup but Leeds bounced back in a much better second half performance to record a hard-earned victory.

Stuart Dallas and Alex Mowatt came up with the goods, providing a goal each in the final 45 minutes and ensured Leeds progressed through to the fourth round.

It wasn’t a perfect evening though as Liam Cooper was reportedly seen in crutches when leaving the stadium following the victory.

There was another blow as centre-back Pontus Jansson will miss the next two matches having picked up his 10th yellow card of the season.

Leeds could face either AFC Wimbledon or Sutton United in the next round after the draw took place on Monday evening following their victory.
