Morgan Gibbs-White rightly recognised for Nottingham Forest heroics as historic Premier League first eyed
Morgan Gibbs-White has been nominated for the Premier League’s Player of the Season award after a fantastic campaign for Nottingham Forest.
The England international has been the key man throughout a difficult season at the City Ground, constantly leading his side through tumultuous times.
Nottingham Forest have had four managers this season and only confirmed their place in next season’s Premier League last week.
Yet Gibbs-White has remained at the top level, stepping up to an extraordinary degree since the turn of the year.
His Nottingham Forest form has undoubtedly attracted suitors ahead of the summer, but decision-makers will hope to convince him to stay.

Football Insider exclusively revealed last month that Nottingham Forest are confident of keeping Gibbs-White at the City Ground this summer.
The midfielder came extremely close to leaving last year after Tottenham triggered his release clause, before decision-makers managed to fight the clause and tie him down to a new contract.
| Morgan Gibbs-White | Stats – Premier League 2025-26 (per 90) |
| Goals | 0.40 |
| Shots | 2.30 |
| Assists | 0.12 |
| Chances created | 1.41 |
| Fouls won | 1.20 |
| Recoveries | 3.16 |
| Duels won | 3.75 |
And they will be glad that they did, with Nottingham Forest’s Premier League status perhaps dependent on it.
Since the start of 2026, Gibbs-White has scored 10 goals and provided two assists in the Premier League, leading the way for a resurgence under Vitor Pereira that has seen them go eight games unbeaten.
It has been a stunning second half of the season for the Englishman, who has given himself a superb chance of making it into Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup squad.
And Thursday’s announcement that Gibbs-White has been nominated for the Premier League Player of the Season award is richly deserved.
Win it, and he would become the first-ever Nottingham Forest player to mark the achievement.
The other candidates include Arsenal’s David Raya, Gabriel and Declan Rice, Manchester City’s Erling Haaland and Antoine Semenyo, Brentford’s Igor Thiago, and Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes.
Gibbs-White backed for England
Gibbs-White faces a nervous wait to find out if he will be included in Tuchel’s England squad for this summer.
With the squad set to be announced next week, Nottingham Forest’s trip to Man United may be the last chance the German has to watch the midfielder play.
On paper, the 26-year-old certainly deserves to be in the squad over the likes of Phil Foden and Cole Palmer, but Tuchel’s selection will be based on beyond just form.
“He deserves that,” said Pereira on Gibbs-White’s chances last month. “This is just my opinion, but if I can give that, I think he deserves it, because he has the quality, he has the qualities of a leader.
“When things are not happening in the way that you want, when the team is struggling in the game, a lot of players could prefer to hide themselves, they do not want the ball.
“But Morgan wants the ball, he wants the responsibility, he wants to score goals, he wants to assist.
“When I told him that, when we are attacking, I wanted him to play in the pocket but, when we defend, he must defend on the side, it was not a problem for him. He understands the game. He has the spirit.”
