Mourinho has lost Alderweireld and he could quit Tottenham within weeks - pundit
Alan Hutton would not be surprised if Toby Alderweireld quit Tottenham – and he could be gone in weeks.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Spurs and Scotland defender suggested the Belgian is reaching the point in his career where he will want to play regularly and simply enjoy his football.
Alderweireld has not appeared in Tottenham’s last two Premier League matchday squads despite being fully fit.
The 32-year-old had been a regular for Jose Mourinho’s side this season but has not featured since the north London derby last month.
He has recorded an 86 per cent pass accuracy and won 66 per cent of his defensive duels in his 18 league appearances, according to Wyscout.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s looking for a new start, he’s been there a long time,” Hutton told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge.

“Alderweireld and Vertonghen were one of the best partnerships for a long time for Tottenham.
“It’s maybe just that time where you’re looking for a change. I think he’s got there, to that time in his career where he’d like to probably move on.
“Tottenham, I think, need a lot of work when it comes to the back four if they’re really going to move on and challenge year in, year out for the top four.
“Maybe it’s time he’s starting to look for a new place. With all this stuff with the manager, you don’t want that at his age. You just want to play football, enjoy it and be happy and it doesn’t look like that at the moment.”
