Southampton are keeping tabs on Tottenham star Harry Winks ahead of the summer, Football Insider understands.
The Spurs academy product has slipped down the midfielder pecking order at the club this season and his Euros dream is in tatters.
A Southampton source has told Football Insider that Winks is on their radar as they assess potential midfield options going into the next window.
The 10-times England international could have a big decision to make on his future at the end of the season.
He has made just seven Premier League starts this term and had more minutes in the Europa League than he has in the main domestic competition.
Winks has been more affected than anyone by Jose Mourinho’s preference for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, signed from Southampton last summer.
It will also not have escaped Winks’ notice that Tottenham are in the market for central midfield reinforcements.
As revealed by Football Insider earlier this week, Spurs are laying the groundwork to sign Marcel Sabitzer from RB Leipzig this summer and Mourinho has spearheading the pursuit.
It could mean the Londoners cashing in on a key asset like Winks to part-fund the move.
The 10-times England international started 26 Premier League matches last season and was once regarded as a future lynchpin for club and country.
Ex-Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino hailed Winks as an “amazing” talent as he brought him through the ranks.
Southampton usually line up in an orthodox 4-4-2 with two central midfielders.
