Named: Mourinho told staff only one Tottenham player had any 'Devil' in him when he arrived
Jose Mourinho told staff that Eric Dier was the only Tottenham player with any “devil” in him when he took over as manager.
The Portugese demanded more nastiness and ruthlessness from the Spurs players when he replaced Mauricio Pochettino in November of last year.
He wanted them to be cleverer when it came to winning games and was frequently heard in the Amazon documentary All Or Nothing urging them to be ‘an intelligent bunch of c****’.
Mourinho felt the Tottenham stars were too “nice” and, according to one source, he told his coaches that Dier was the only member of the squad with any “devil” in him when he took the reins.
There has been a focus behind the scenes on being smarter and more match savvy.
Harry Kane has certainly become even more successful at winning free kicks and penalties with clever manipulation of his body and the ball.

Mourinho was forced to defend the club talisman last month after accusations that he had tricked his way to a penalty against Brighton.
The manager’s approval of Dier a year ago is intriguing and partly explains why a player who had appeared to be leaving Tottenham has instead reignited a career that had been flagging.
He was given an extended run in his preferred centre-back position after the lockdown ended and made such an impact that he signed a new long-term contract over the summer and has become a first choice in the title-challenging side this season.
Dier has started nine of Spurs’ 10 Premier League matches this season and only missed one when he was unavailable.
He is expected to be in the side for tomorrow’s north London derby against Arsenal.
