Nathan Ake transfer now ‘big possibility’ as Everton eye up Manchester City defender

Nathan Ake has emerged as a transfer target for Everton as he eyes a move away from Man City this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The 31-year-old has fallen down the pecking order under Pep Guardiola this season and is keen to move on in search of more regular playing time.

Everton are believed to be one of a number of clubs plotting a move for the Netherlands international and could offer him an exit route when the window opens.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, David Moyes views Ake as somebody who would add quality and depth to his squad.

After a strong season at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, they are keen to build on their recent success in what could be a busy summer transfer window for Everton.

Could Everton make a move to sign Nathan Ake?

Former West Ham scout Mick Brown, who worked closely with Moyes, told Football Insider earlier this year that Everton are keen to sign Ake if he becomes available.

They are likely to face competition from a number of Premier League rivals and clubs across Europe, but see him as an improvement on their current options.

Ake’s ability to play both as a centre-back and left-back would fit Moyes’ side perfectly while adding depth and cover in two key positions.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “Yeah, I would say there’s a big possibility that Nathan Ake could leave Man City this summer.

“At this stage of his career, Ake will be interested in moving on in search of regular first team football and as I said Everton could be a good fit for him.

“Obviously he’s a versatile player, can also play left back as well as centre back.

“He would definitely be somebody who would add quality and depth to David Moyes’ squad.

“If he’s available for a cup price fee due to his contract situation it could be a good deal for Everton.”

How do Man City feel about selling Ake this summer?

Ake’s desire to leave Man City has come as a result of his lack of playing time, but he remains a part of Guardiola’s squad as they hunt further success.

City remain in the Premier League title race, are into the FA Cup final and have already won the Carabao Cup thanks largely to the depth of their squad.

However, Ake could be on the chopping block with the club now prepared to look elsewhere regardless of his position as a useful depth option.

Football Insider revealed last month that Man City are ready to let Ake leave when the summer window opens after overhauling their defensive line.

The January arrival of Marc Guehi was seen as the beginning of the end for the Netherlands international, and further additions would force him out of the door.
