Neco Williams to Everton: Keith Wyness drops verdict on deal being agreed

Everton are not in pole position to sign Nottingham Forest full-back Neco Williams and will prioritise other targets.

That is according to Everton’s former chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, about the club’s interest in Williams.

The Toffees will be looking to sign a new full-back this summer after right-back Seamus Coleman confirmed his departure from the club after 17 years.

David Moyes has also lacked depth in the position, with centre-back Jake O’Brien utilised at right-back on numerous occasions this season.

Everton are looking to strengthen their squad this summer as they look to push for European qualification next season, after missing out this campaign.

Neco Williams wouldn’t be a ‘game changer’ for Everton

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – doesn’t see a move for Williams materialising this summer.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks the 25-year-old wouldn’t improve the Everton squad.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I don’t see Neco being a game changer for the squad.

“Monitoring him is one thing. I don’t think he’ll be the one that Everton get, but he’s not one that I think is going to dramatically change the squad.

“While he’s obviously a talented, quick player as well, I don’t see that one happening.”

Everton identify top defensive target

Instead of Williams, former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown has told Football Insider that Everton are lining up a move for El Hadji Malick Diouf this summer.

The West Ham full-back has grown into his first season in the Premier League, and proved to be an attacking threat down the left flank.

The Hammers will need to sell players this summer due to their financial situation, meaning they could listen to offers on Diouf, as well as other star players.

The 21-year-old would provide much-needed youth to Everton’s ageing back line, and provide competition to Vitaliy Mykolenko’s place in the side.
