Newcastle are set to make renewed efforts to convince Alexander Isak to sign a contract extension amid interest from other Premier League clubs, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that Chelsea are monitoring the Sweden international.

Isak is a wanted man on the back of his astonishing scoring feats in recent months, with his 22 appearances in total this season yielding 15 goals and four assists.

That follows on from his impressive 2023-24 campaign where the _-year-old scored 25 goals in 40 appearances for Eddie Howe’s side.

Isak is currently under contract at Tyneside until 2028, but the club would prefer him to sign an extension to commit his long-term future to Newcastle.

Well-placed sources have informed Football Insider that Newcastle’s current form is going to boost their chances of keeping him at the club as they are competing for silverware and hoping to qualify for the Champions League.

Newcastle will face competition to retain Alexander Isak

Isak is going to cost well over a £100million if he is to leave the club due to the length of his contract, but Chelsea are not the only team interested in him.

The Gunners supporters have been pushing for the club to bring in a new striker for some time, and Isak is seen as an ideal option.

However, Isak is expected to remain at Newcastle until at least the summer given his importance to the club.
