Newcastle eyeing English goalscoring midfielder from PL rivals - report
By Derek Smithson
Newcastle are eyeing Chelsea midfielder Lewis Baker, according to a report.
The Sun claim that Magpies manager Rafael Benitez is “running the rule over the player” as he looks to improve his squad for next season.
It is understood Bournemouth and Swansea are also monitoring the 22-year-old, who is involved in the England Under-21 squad at the European Championships this summer.
However, the report details that England manager Aidy Boothroyd has “banned” transfer talks for Baker before the Euro campaign and is blocking contact from agents.
Baker spent last season on loan at Dutch top-flight club Vitesse Arnhem and impressed with his quality in front of goal.

The central midfielder made 39 appearances across all competitions, scoring 15 goals and supplying seven assists in return.
He has been unable to cut the grade at Stamford Bridge so far in his career and has made just one senior appearance
Football Insider verdict:
Newcastle could do with some midfield reinforcements for next season and need a partner to slot in alongside playmaker Jonjo Shelvey. Chelsea youngster Baker could be a great candidate to fill that role , but it is yet unknown if the Blues are prepared to let him go again for another season. Baker certainly deserves a chance now to prove himself in the Premier League after some successful loan spells away from Stamford Bridge. The central midfielder is an important member of the youth set-up for England and the 22-year-old now needs to prove himelf in the top flight.
