Newcastle United fans have taken to Twitter to rage over a transfer report linking the club with Watford striker Troy Deeney.
ESPN FC claimed on their website that the Magpies have identified the 29-year-old striker as their top target for the January transfer window, and that they have already made an approach over his availability.
It is said that manager Rafael Benitez is keen to strengthen his attack over the next month, and sees Deeney as offering something that his current options do not.
However, the Toon Army were less than thrilled on Twitter with the possibility of making a move for the Hornets’ captain, with many questioning what he brings to the table in comparison to fellow powerhouse forward Aleksandar Mitrovic, who has been cast out by Benitez this season.
Here, Football Insider has rounded up a selection of the supporters’ best tweets:

This season has seen Deeney score twice in 13 appearances in the Premier League for Watford, although he has already missed seven games through suspension, with a four match ban over the festive period having come to an end after the club’s last outing.
Newcastle have managed to net just 20 goals in 22 appearances in the top flight, with Joselu and Dwight Gayle both leading the club’s scoring charts with just three goals each.
In other Newcastle United transfer news, it has been confirmed that the club have held talks over the exit of a struggling attacker.
