Andros Townsend’s camp have told Newcastle that he would be interested in a return to the club – and Toon fans on Twitter have provided mixed views.
The Telegraph claim that the Crystal Palace winger has admitted that it was a mistake leaving the Championship side in the summer.
Townsend left St James’ Park and made a £13million switch to Selhurst Park in 2016 with a return to Premier League football in his mind.
However, the pacey winger has struggled for form during this campaign, scoring just one goal all season as his current side battle relegation.
There was a mixed reaction from supporters on social media with some stating that they would love him back.
Fans pointed out the qualities he can bring to the team as Rafa Benitez’ side aim for an instant return to the Premier League.
However, another supporter was adamant that he does not want the England international back because it would be a backwards step.
There were fans who felt that the Townsend signing won’t happen as they cannot see their former manager Sam Allardyce doing them a favour.
If Townsend was to make a return then he would join a side that is currently sitting top of the Championship table, seven points clear of third-placed Leeds.

As much as I hated Townsend leaving, he'd absolute destroy the Championship! #NUFC

This Andros Townsend return rumour is great, but I just can't see Sam Allardyce doing #NUFC a favour 🤔

Stop being tight and just pay the money for Townsend! We know what he's capable of. Bring him back. #nufc
