Newcastle fans slate senior man after Brighton win against Derby

By Amir Mir

Brighton beat Derby County 3-0 in the Championship on Friday night at the Amex Stadium – and Newcastle fans on Twitter have slated Rams manager Steve McClaren.

The Rams senior man took charge of the Midlands club earlier on in the campaign, having been sacked from his managerial duties at St James’ Park last season.

From the perspective of Newcastle fans, McClaren is one those to blame for their relegation to the Championship after he spent over £50million in the Premier League last term but struggled throughout the season.

Nonetheless, his Derby side were unable to contain Chris Hughton’s men who stormed to a comfortable victory in front of their own supporters.

Goals from Anthony Knockheart and Sam Baldock in the first half saw the home team go into the break with a comfortable lead.

Thereafter, striker Glenn Murray struck late into the second half with the away side only producing three shots on goal.

Magpies fans on Twitter were hoping that Derby and their former manager would do them a favour and ensure that the Seagulls drop points.

However, the second-placed side closed the gap on Newcastle in the table with the duo now on 77 points, with Rafa Benitez’ side set to play Fulham on Saturday.

A number of fans urged the club to focus their attention to the game at St James’ Park and use this result as motivation.
