Newcastle United scouts have been monitoring defender Kasim Nuhu from Swiss top-flight champions Young Boys, according to a report.
The Chronicle claims that the 6ft 2in (source: Transfermarkt) colossus is on the radar of the Magpies after he played an important role in winning a league title in the 2017/18 season.
It is understood that the Ghana international is also being eyed by other English clubs after an impressive campaign and that manager Rafael Benitez has a long list of centre-back targets this summer.
Football Insider verdict:
Nuhu certainly looks a promising upcoming talent cut out for English football in the future with his physicality and reading of the game, which helped him played a key role for Young Boys in the recent season. The 22-year-old made 45 appearances across all competitions, chipping in with three goals from the defence. He is a powerhouse centre-back that has experience in European football, but it’s unclear how much Benitez would have to cough up to try land him. Newcastle do need some extra depth in their squad going into next year, but fans will be happy if Jamaal Lascelles and Florian Lejeune are the starting centre-back pair once again after forming a solid understanding. The backline was vital in securing Premier League status on Newcastle’s return to the top flight, but the lack of attacking firepower at St James’ Park remains a pressing issue that must be addressed ASAP.
In the latest Newcastle United transfer news, they are in talks to offload their powerhouse defender.
