Newcastle have perfect chance to sign Marcus Rashford as Barcelona hold meetings

Newcastle United are admirers of Marcus Rashford this summer as they look to confirm the sale of Anthony Gordon.

The winger is set to leave St James’ Park in a big-money sale in the coming months, with Bayern Munich’s interest thought to be most advanced.

The Bundesliga champions have reportedly already struck an agreement on personal terms with Gordon, although there remains some ground to cover on the fee.

However, Barcelona now look to have entered the race and could create a conundrum for the England international.

Newcastle transfer chiefs will hope a bidding war can spark, while their eyes are firmly set on his replacement.

Marcus Rashford to become available

Football Insider exclusively revealed in April that Rashford is on Newcastle’s radar this summer, but that a deal would be difficult to pull off.

The winger has enjoyed a brilliant season on loan with Barcelona, and is desperate for them to activate their £26million option to buy with Manchester United.

The Spanish champions appear to be hesitant, however, and have been attempting to negotiate a lower fee.

And now, according to Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona have held internal talks over Gordon in several meetings in recent days, with the Newcastle man high on their target list for this summer.

Any potential deal would install major doubt over their ability to bring in Rashford as well, with Newcastle perhaps eyeing an opportunity.

In many ways, the 28-year-old would be an upgrade over Gordon on the left flank. He scored 14 goals and provided 11 assists across all competitions last summer, and is a deadly finisher.

Both wingers will go to the World Cup with England this summer, with transfer talks to rage on in the background.

Third club could still enter Anthony Gordon race

There remains a potential dark horse in the race for Gordon, and that is the Premier League champions, Arsenal.

The Gunners have long held an interest in the Newcastle forward and are keen to sign a big-money left-winger this summer.

One of Gabriel Martinelli or Leandro Trossard, or indeed both, is expected to leave the club this summer, with Gordon among the potential replacements.

Arsenal are reportedly also interested in PSG’s Bradley Barcola, but could enter the race for the 25-year-old if they are told that he is unavailable.
