Newcastle investment announcement imminent as PIF moves to calm LIV Golf fears
Newcastle United’s owners, the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund (PIF), are set to announce a major capital investment.
There have been fears surrounding the Magpies’ ownership situation in recent days amid the ongoing pull of funding for LIV Golf.
PIF’s breakaway golf tour, LIV, has been plunged into uncertainty amid the decision to remove future funding, while chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan, also Newcastle chairman, is expected to resign from his role.
The drastic measure has left many at St James’ Park fearing similar action, although efforts have been made to ease concerns.
Newcastle’s owners have reportedly reaffirmed their long-term commitment to the club in recent days and have assured decision-makers that the LIV Golf situation is independent.

Football Insider exclusively revealed last month that PIF are set to make funds available at Newcastle this summer, despite the fears surrounding their long-term commitment.
The project at St James’ Park is hardly comparable to LIV Golf, however. The deal that saw Newcastle taken over in 2021 was worth around £300million and while they have posted losses in the years since, spending on the golf tour is nearing £4bn.
| Newcastle – Most expensive signings under PIF | Fee |
| Nick Woltemade | £69m |
| Alexander Isak | £63m |
| Anthony Elanga | £55m |
| Sandro Tonali | £55m |
| Yoane Wissa | £55m |
Still, fans have been left wandering what is going on behind the scenes in Saudi Arabia, with fears mounting that a widespread pull of funding could follow.
However, BBC Sport report that senior figures at Newcastle were informed that the LIV Golf situation did not affect Newcastle, and more good news is set to follow after meetings with PIF this week.
A major capital investment is due to be announced in the coming days, with plans in place for a new training ground and the owners’ long-term commitment unchanged.
For some, though, the willingness of PIF to pull their funding will not be so simple to forget.
Newcastle’s summer will be telling
Newcastle appear to be at a crossroads when it comes to their project going forward.
Eddie Howe may well have taken his team as far as they can go under his guidance, with such a disappointing season hard to swallow.
But it is not all his fault. There are clear gaps in the squad that must be addressed in the transfer window, and with exits almost guaranteed, decision-makers will be under pressure to get it right.
PIF’s influence will be telling for their true commitment, with senior officials in desperate need of a strong structure to build off.
